Spirit of Prophecy Symposium, held at Helderberg College of Higher Education, Cape Town, South Africa, February 14-17, 2018.
This book contains a collection of presentations from "The Bible, the Spirit of Prophecy and Contemporary Issues" symposium held on February 14-17, 2018, at Helderberg College of Higher Education in Cape Town, South Africa. The symposium was jointly sponsored by the Spirit of Prophecy Department of the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division, the Ellen G. White Research Centre at Helderberg College, and various Unions of the Division. Participants presented papers clarifying issues that are currently causing division over the Bible and the writings of Ellen G. White in the SID. The presentations included: - Universal rules on interpreting prophetic literature - Independent ministries, offshoot movements, and church unity - The use of medicine in Ellen White's writings - How Ellen White's testimonies were received by the pioneers - Engaging millennials with the writings of Ellen White. In this book, the reader will be delighted to discover that Ellen White's two greatest passions were the Bible and the love of Jesus Christ, and these central points inform the bulk of her writings. Though we are separated from the period she lived in by location, culture, and time, we should bear in mind that divine principles governing our practices do not change. Therefore, it is the conclusion of the authors that, although their application may differ, Ellen White's writings are still relevant today. -- back cover.
